Healthy for Change

I watched a documentary the other day called Healthy for Change. It’s been taunting me on Netflix for the past 6 months with its colorful pictures and enticing title. And now? Well let’s just say I’m healthy for change! I’ve always tried to be relatively healthy my whole life (thanks to my awesome parents), but after watching this documentary I realized how much healthier I could get. And how much sugar is in EVERYTHING. :/ I never thought I’d be one of those people who checks lables at the grocery store but I seriously can’t help myself. Things I always thought were relatively good for you have sugar listed super early in the ingredients! Now don’t get me wrong, I am not the type of person who has the self control to completely cut sugars from my diet, but I definitely don’t want to waste my sugars on something that doesn’t even need sugar!

I also learned how important it is to really get your servings of fruit and veggies each day. I always make sure to include a veggie with all dinner meals but honestly other than lettuce and tomato on my sandwiches and fruit sometimes for breakfast that’s really all I’m getting. So what did this documentary suggest? I bet you can guess…. Juicing! Yep, juicing. So no joke that very same day I researched and bought a juicer and about 10 pounds of produce.

Here is all the produce I snagged! Plus tons more that aren’t photographed. I have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every concoction I’ve made. I already have to run to the store for more! I find that carrots, celery, and spinach are a good base and then I add things like pear, apples, and oranges to sweeten it up a bit. I’m planning on getting some beets and pineapple today as I’ve gotten some good recipes with those in it!

I plan to juice 1-2 times a day while cutting out process foods from my diet. I’m really trying to make this a way of life but I also want to be realistic in that I’ll prob have a few cheat days on the weekends. I also am trying to get in some good exercise at least 4 times a week. Although this awesome weather we’ve been having makes that pretty easy. Not sure how motivated I’ll be when it’s 110 degrees out. 😉

If any one knows of any good recipes for juicing or for some healthy meals, let me know! I think its important to stay motivated and dedicated through this whole process.

  1. Good luck! I always wondered if you could use frozen fruits while juicing – I guess only with a vitamix?

  2. I have been eating a lot healthier lately-far more fruits and veggies than I used to. I have thought about juicing, but never made the leap and got a juicer. What I really love is green smoothies. Have you ever had them? Super good! The one I have every morning is called the Green Monster. It has a banana, vanilla yogurt, a small spoon of peanut butter, a little almond milk and 2 cups spinach! It is super amazing and tastes like PB and banana. You can’t even taste the spinach.

    • My parents are very into the green smoothies! I’ve tried a few of theirs tho and they are a bit too… um, green I guess you could say. Your recipe seems much more my taste, I ll have to try it. Thanks!!

  3. Yay for juicing! You have got to watch the documentary “fat sick and nearly dead”. I love your blog! Please keep posting! I’m dying to see your custom entertainment center!
